For most of their lives,
my kids have only had mediocre pie at Thanksgiving.
I like to bake, but something about making a pie from scratch terrifies me.
We have never really been a "pie family".
Well, after trying Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish pies,
my family has a new obsession!
We tried 3 of Mrs. Smith's Pies and had a lot of fun customizing them.
First in the oven was
Pumpkin Pie with Cream Cheese Icing.
My husband loves Pumpkin Pie,
and thinks it is ridiculous that it is only served at Thanksgiving.
I decided to put a Christmas twist to it.
I baked the pie and added a teaspoon of Egg Nog to the Cream Cheese Frosting,
then I drizzled the icing over the pie and added a festive
pie bird...
My dad grew up in Washington State,
so for the 2nd pie,
Dutch Apple Pie with Caramel Sauce,
we went with a nod to Seattle's famous beverage...COFFEE.
I heated the Caramel Sauce on the stove
and mixed in a heaping Tablespoon of Coffee Ice Cream
the Caramel Coffee Sauce was drizzled over the
incredible crumble topping...
and the Washington State Pie was gobbled up in minutes...
Our last pie was,
Cherry with Butter Fudge Sauce.
As soon as my kids saw Cherry,
they immediately thought of our friend's ranch.
They have acres of Cherry and Walnut Trees, so of course we had to honor them...
we mixed in chopped walnuts with the butter fudge sauce
and drizzled over the fabulously flaky crust...
we can't wait to make this again for our friends at
Sunset Ranch,
Thank you JoJo for all the good times!

ReplyDeleteThat apple pie sounds absolutely scrumptious! Especially since it has that crumble topping. There is just something about pies with crumbles that makes me drool... :P
ReplyDeleteAs for the WS gift card, that would be put to good use for building my kitchen supplies when I get married! We have pretty much nothing so far, so that gift card would be such a blessing.
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch Apple Pie with Caramel Sauce looks sooo yummy!
ReplyDeleteAll your pies look delicious Alexis. Hand raised for taste-tester if needed!
ReplyDeleteI'd go for the apple pie, add some southern style Pralines on top, then the caramel drizzle, and then top the caramel with some Himalyan pink salt from the salt grinder! And at Williams Sonoma I have my eye on some jolly looking napkin rings with jingle bells on them! Apple pie and bells- Merry Merry!
