ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I'm gonna try this! Thanks for sharing. Liz
ReplyDeleteCan u use food coloring in this recipe???
ReplyDeleteI have made this and am loving it - I've pinned it and am in the process of finding some cute jars to make them for part of my sister gift exchange! Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather! Doesn't it smell great?!
DeleteQuick question: is there a shelf-life on this? I want to plan ahead for Christmas gifts and get them out of the way early. I figured I could put this together and then store it in a cool place until December. Do you think it would keep well enough?
ReplyDeleteI made them this summer and now it has been about 2 months...it is still as good as new. I think it should be fine.
DeleteDo you know how long it will last before it goes bad? (thinking of making Christmas gifts a month ahead). Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI still have one from the batch I made in August, it is still perfect!
DeleteHi were do u buy that oil at!?
ReplyDeleteTrader Joe's is where I got mine but they usually have it at other grocery stores too.
DeleteDo you melt the coconut oil before you mix it with the sugar?
ReplyDeleteI did, it was easier for me to mix but you don't have to.
DeleteIm going to make the coconut scrub for a bridal shower for late november can I mix mint into the the coconut scrub or would that be to overpowering?
ReplyDeleteI would think a little bit of mint would be great!
DeleteI love this! How did you create your tags?
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the rock candy at? Do they sell it at local stores like target or walmart?
ReplyDeleteParty City has them...
DeleteHave you tried any other brand than Trader Joe's? Ie, Costco?
ReplyDeleteI have only used Trader Joe's but I am sure any coconut oil would be great!
DeleteLove this idea but am a little curious. 1 cup sugar and 1 cup oil for this recipe, but for the candy cane recipe it says 2 cups sugar and barely 1/2 cup oil. Is that right?
ReplyDeleteThat is how I made these, there is no exact science. I wanted these to have more of the coconut smell.
DeleteIs there anything you could add to the mix to keep the coconut oil from solidifying after you mix it with the sugar? I made it and I love it, but after the coconut oil re-solidified it was harder to get out of the jar than I wanted.
ReplyDeleteI guess you can add more of a different kind of oil...I didn't have a problem with it...
DeleteDo you have to use Cane Sugar? Or would reg white sugar do?
ReplyDeleteany sugar should be fine
DeleteThank you. Great recipe! I've read some of the questions- I would just add that any raw coconut oil (organic even better) works great and has soo many benefits for the body and skin.. as for the sugar- you could replace it with sea salt as well if you want more coarse of a scrub! And essential oils are wonderful too. This is a great recipe as a basic scrub though and i'm making some today- as well as for Christmas presents THANK YOU
ReplyDeleteJust to make sure. Do you cook the ingredients together before putting it in a jar?

ReplyDeleteJust to make sure. Do you cook the ingredients together before putting it in a jar?
ReplyDeleteNo! You do not cook anything( except melting the coconut oil) just mix together
DeleteI made this earlier today, but misread and only put coconut oil and sugar. According to the directions, it should have the canola/light olive oil, too. Should I try to add it in now, or do you think it'll be fine like this or? I have to ship it out tomorrow =|
